Since coming to the Ducks in 2005-2006 Head Coach Randy Carlyle, has delivered on his promise to establish the Ducks as a perennial NHL power. Led by veterans Teemu Selanne and Scott Niedermayer, the Ducks' hard working style has once again put them into a position to contend for a title.

Founded in 1993 by The Walt Disney Company, the franchise was sold to Henry and Susan Samueli, prior to the 2006-07 season and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim became the Anaheim Ducks. The Samueli's appointed Brian Burke, former Vancouver Canucks General Manager and President, as GM and Executive Vice-President of The Ducks. One of Burke's first orders of business was to bring back former star and fan favorite Teemu Selanne, who played for the team from 1995-2001 before going to Pacific Division rival San Jose Sharks. The team also made news that summer by making a big splash in free agency signing defenseman Scott Niedermayer, the 2004 Norris Trophy.

The Ducks started the 2006-2007 season on fire. They set an NHL open era record by remaining undefeated in regulation for the first 16 games of the season, surpassing the previous record set by the 1983-1984 Edmonton Oilers. On April 7, the Ducks won their first Pacific Division title in franchise history, when the Vancouver Canucks defeated the second-place San Jose Sharks in the Sharks' final game of the season.

In the 2006-2007 Western Conference quarter finals, the Ducks defeated the Minnesota Wild 4 games to 1. Next up was the Vancouver Canucks, the Northwest Division champions, whom they also defeated 4 games to 1. They faced the Red Wings in the Western Conference Finals, winning 4 games to 2, which advanced them in the Stanley Cup Finals for the second time. On June 6, the Ducks defeated the Ottawa Senators 6-2 at Honda Center to claim their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
