The Army Black Knights football program represents the United States Military Academy in the sport of American Football. Army Black Knights History
The Army Black Knights started their journey of thousand miles in 1890. The Navy challenged the cadets to a game but they defeated the Army. But the Army went to defeat the Navy in the following season. From 1944 to 1950, the Cadets had 57 wins, 3 losses and 4 ties. Under the tenure of head coach Earl Blaik, the Army won three consecutive national championships in 1944, 1945 and 1946. On December 22, 1984, the Army Back Knights battled with Michigan State for Cherry Bowl. The Army defeated the state by a score of 10-6. Success came quickly to the team; they gave an appearance to the Peach Bowl in following season on 31st December. The Army faced and defeated the Illinois with 31-29. The three Army players; Doc Blanchard, Glenn Davis and Pete Dawkins won the Heisman trophy in 1945, 1946 and 1958 respectively. The Army Black Knights became the member of Conference USA between 1998 and 2004 season but again reverted back to its former independent status. The Army Black Knights play their home games at Michie Stadium. It is located on the campus of the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York.
