Iowa St. Cyclones History
The Iowa St. Cyclones were founded in 1892. They finished the 1894 season with 6–1 record. The Iowa State shut out 1971 season with 8–4. The Cyclones battled Nebraska in 1972 season, which resulted in a 23–23. The team finished 1977 season with an 8–3 record. They were ranked 18 during the season in the country. McCarney was appointed as the head coach of the Iowa St. Cyclones in 2000. The team appeared in their first bowl game since 1978. They won the game and recorded their first ever bowl victory. The Cyclones went to a second bowl game in 2001 against the Alabama in the 2001 Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana. But unfortunately, they lost the game. The team started the following season with 6-1 and they are ranked #9 in the country but failed to carry forward the success. The 2004 season was one of the successful season of the Iowa St. Cyclones. They faced and defeated the Miami RedHawks by a score of 17–13 in the 2004 Independence Bowl. The team finished the season with 7-5. In 2010 the Cyclones defeated the #22 Texas Longhorns by a 28–21 margin. This was recorded as the 4th ever win on the ranked team in the history of the Iowa State. The Iowa St. Cyclones play their home games at Jack Trice Stadium.
