Miami Hurricanes History
The Miami Hurricanes were established in 1926. The team played their first game on October 23, 1926. They defeated the Rollins College by a score of 7-0. The Hurricanes posted 8-0 record in their first season. The team posted 4–4–1 record in 1928 and Buck was replaced by J. Burton Rix as the head coach. In the following season, the Miami played its first varsity road game and Rix led the team to its first winning season with 3–2. Rix left the team after one season and Tom McCann became the head coach in 1931. Under him, the Hurricanes finished the 1932 season with a winning record. Later, they defeated Manhattan College with 7-0 at Moore Park in Miami. In 1934, the team played their first bowl game but unfortunately could not able to convert it into a victory. They won their first Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association title with an 8–2 record after defeating the Florida by a score of 19–7 at Florida Field. The Hurricanes went 9–1–1 in 1945 and made it to the Orange Bowl for the first time since 1934. They faced and defeated Holy Cross with 13–6. Currently, Miami is ranked fourth on the list of All-time Associated Press National Poll Championships. The Hurricanes have won five AP national championships along with 9 conference titles since their foundation. The Miami Hurricanes play their home games at Sun Life Stadium.
