Navy Midshipmen History
The Navy Midshipmen were established in 1879. The Army–Navy rivalry has always been the talk of the town. It is one of the most traditional and enduring rivalries in college football. Under the tenure of Doug Howard from 1911-14, the team played 36 games out of which, they have won 25 games, lost 7 games with 4 ties. After the resignation of Howard, Jonas H. Ingram was appointed as the head coach of the team in 1915. He guided the team in 1915-1916 season. The Navy went 9-8-2 during his period. After playing some mediocre season, Paul Johnson became the head coach of the navy and guided them from 2002-2007. Under the leadership of Paul, the team played 74 matches. The team posted outstanding 45-29-0 record. The Navy defeated the Notre Dame with 46–44 in triple overtime on November 3, 2007. After few days, On November 7, 2009 Navy played an inspired game and beat the #22 ranked Irish 23 to 21 in South Bend. The Navy again bounced back and bested Notre Dame 35-17 at the New Meadowlands on October 23, 2010. The Navy Midshipmen became the national champions in 1926. Since their founding, the Navy Midshipmen earned two Heisman trophies. The team play their home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
