The University of Tulsa’s Golden Hurricane football team, is the school’s official Division I football team and represents the university in Conference USA of the NCAA. The football program for this school has been in place since 1895 and during this time it has been known for having several of the top college football coaches at the school. This includes head coaches such as Steve Kragthorpe and Todd Graham, all who have brought the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes a great deal of success during their time as a team.
Currently the Tulsa Golden Hurrican football team competes in the NCAA Bowl Sub-Division football program and they currently have the smallest undergraduate enrollment of students of any school that participates in this division. Despite their small size, the school has still managed to find a great deal of success not only within the Western Division of Conference USA where they play but throughout the league as well.
This success can be seen with their impressive history in post-season bowl game play, where the team has appeared in 17 different bowl games. The team has also been a nationally ranked team and in the top 25 according to AP polls in numerous seasons, proving that despite being small, they are still able to be one of the most competitive teams in the league.
Fans of the Tulsa Golden Hurricane football team can see the team play live at their home games on Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium. This stadium has a field turf and the capacity to seat 30,000 excited Tulsa fans. On game games you can see this stadium in gold, royal blue and crimson; the team’s official colors. You can also hear their official fight song being played at every home game, a song called “Hurricane Spirit,” and see an appearance from their official school mascot Captain Crane.
