UNLV Rebels History
The UNLV Rebels started their journey of thousand miles in 1968. The Rebels played their first game of inaugural season on September 14, 1968 against the St. Mary's Gaels at Cashman Field in Las Vegas. The team defeated the Gaels by the score of 27–20 in front of 8,000 fans and won the game. The Rebels finished their inaugural with 8-1 record. On September 25, 1971, the Rebels played their first game against a Division I school. They faced the Utah State of the Pacific Coast Athletic Association but lost the game. Ron Meyer became the head coach of the team in 1973. He led the Rebels to an outstanding 8-3 record. The team recorded their first win over a major college opponent as they defeated the Marshall by the score of 31–9. The Rebels entered the 1974 season riding on success. The team observed their only undefeated season in school history. They finished the season with 11-0 and ranked second in the national Division II polls. The Rebels won their first conference championship in 1984 as they finished the season with 11-2. The UNLV Rebels play their home games at Sam Boyd Stadium.
