USC Trojans History
The USC Trojans were founded in 1888. Earlier, the team was referred to as the Methodists as well as the Wesleyans. The Methodists played their first match on November 14, 1888 against Alliance Athletic Club. The team defeated them by a score of 16–0. They faced their first collegiate opponent; St. Vincent’s College in the following year and defeated them with 40-0. Later, the team joined the Intercollegiate Football Association of Southern California in 1893. The Wesleyans got its current name “Trojans” in 1912. The USC went outside of Southern California in 1905. They went to Stanford University on November 4, 1905. Unfortunately, the team lost the game by 16-0. Gus Henderson was appointed as the head coach of the team in 1920s. In 1922 the team was counted among the topmost teams of the NCAA. Jeff Cravath was hired as the head coach of the team. Under his tenure from 1942–1950, the Trojans won the Rose Bowl in 1943 and 1945 season. Since the formation of the team, they have claimed 11 national titles. The USC Trojans play their home games at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. It is located in the in the University Park.
