Washington St. Cougars History
The Washington St. Cougars have always been the talk of the town since their establishment. They were referred to as one of the serious contenders in the Pac-10 and in its predecessor, the Pacific Coast Conference. Cougars were awarded the 1917 National Championship by the Helms Athletic Foundation. They made it to the NCAA Tournament for the first time ever in 1941 season, which also includes a Final Four appearance. By winning the Conference Regular Season Championship in 1941, they became the one of the favorite teams of fans during that era. Another wave of success came in 2004-05 season, they fetched some considerate wins and made a .500 winning percentage. The highlight of that season was the thrilling victory over the eventual Elite Eight team Arizona. They entered into the following season riding on success. By defeating the No. 7 Arizona, the Cougars made it to the Associated Press Top 25 poll for the first time since 1983. Their spectators were shocked by the team's performance as they finished second in the conference and peaking with a No. 4 ranking. Earning #4 seed in the NCAA Tournament, they defeated the Oral Roberts in the first round by the outstanding score of 70-54. With 3–5 in the Pac-10 and 26–8 overall, they tied the record of fetching the most wins during that season. The Washington St. Cougars play their home games at Beasley Coliseum.
