The Alabama Crimson Tide have a history that any team would wish to have. Several coaches joined the team, who took the Alabama to great heights. C. M. Newton was one of the successful coaches of the team as he led them to 211 wins against 123 losses in his 12 years’ tenure. Under his watch, they won three straight SEC titles in 1974, 1975 and 1976 season respectively and became the only team to accomplish this besides Kentucky. He also led the team to four NIT and two NCAA tournament berths during his tenure. Wimp Sanderson coached the team after the resignation of the Newton in 1980-81 season. In his 12 years as the head coach, the Alabama won 4 SEC Tournaments and played in one NIT and eight NCAA tournaments, making to the "Sweet 16" five times. Sanderson has brought 267 wins and became the only coach in Alabama history to win 200 or more games in his first 10 years. Owing to his efforts, he won the SEC Coach of the Year in 1987, 1989 and 1990, and was the National Coach of the Year in 1987.
