Arkansas Razorbacks Football Tickets
The Arkansas Razorbacks football team is a Division I program for the University of Arkansas. The team is located in Fayetteville, Arkansas and plays their home games at War Memorial Stadium and Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Razorback Stadium has a capacity of 72,000 and opened in 1938. The team plays the majority of their home games there. The team also plays at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, Arkansas. War Memorial Stadium has a capacity of 54,120 people and opened in 1948. The team plays in the Southeastern Conference, known as the SEC, and is currently coached by John L. Smith. This is Smith’s first season with the Razorbacks, after most recently coaching at Michigan State from 2003-2006.
Since their first season in 1894, the Razorbacks have been one of the top programs in the country. Arkansas really came into its own under Frank Broyles. In his 19 years as coach, the team compiled a 144-58-5 record, including seven conference championships, a four bowl game wins, ten trips to bowl games, and a National Championship in 1964 after leading the team to a perfect 11-0 record. Broyles transitioned to the role of athletic director after finishing his coaching career and the team brought in Lou Holtz, who led the team to six straight bowl games and a 60-21-2 mark before being fired and continuing his incredible coaching career at Notre Dame. After Holtz, Ken Hatfield came in and posted the highest career winning percentage in Razorback history. Since their move to the SEC, under Houston Nutt and Bobby Petrino, the team has regained a history of winning, compiling a record of 109-62 since Nutt first started in 1998.
The team has featured five different players that have won national honors, most recently D.J. Williams won the John Mackey Award in 2010. The team has also featured 45 All-Americans on its roster. Arkansas has four main rivals: the Ole Miss Rebels, the LSU Tigers, the Texas Longhorns, and the Texas A&M Aggies. The latter two have waned since the Razorbacks left the Southwest Conference; however, the Aggies and the Razorbacks recently signed a deal that will ensure the two teams will play one another for at least 10 years. The matchup between the Razorbacks and the Tigers is played annually on the day after Thanksgiving on national TV for the “Golden Boot” trophy. LSU leads the series 35-20-2. While the other three games are important, no game takes on as much importance as the annual game between the Rebels and the Razorbacks. Since 1908, these two teams have faced off 56 times with Arkansas leading 32-25-1.
