Auburn Tigers History
The history of the Auburn Tigers dates back to 1905, when they were coached by Mike Donahue, who stayed with them for next 16 years, winning 74 games against 80 losses. Auburn gave phenomenal performances under the coaching period of Joel H. Eaves. He proved to be the most successful coach of the team. They won 213 matches under his coaching period against 100 losses, a .681 winning percentage and posted an outstanding 124-75 conference record. Another great move took place in the team in 1978-1979 season, when Sonny Smith was appointed as the head coach of the Tigers. He was another successful coach, who took the team for 11 long seasons. With him, Auburn compiled an overall record of 173-154, a .529 winning percentage. They gave five back to back NCAA Tournament appearances from 1984-1988 during his tenure. Smith brought the first SEC Tournament Championship to the team in 1985. In the following season, they made it to the Elite Eight but unfortunately lost to Louisville. Since their formation, they have won two regular season championship in 1960 and 1999 respectively. The Auburn Tigers play their home games at Auburn Arena.
