Chicago Chicago

With the Chicago Bears on a break until the weekend, the Chicago Fire on a break until the end of the month, and the Blackhawks currently on a NHL lockout, it may seem as though there is little to look forward to for Chicago sports fans. This is especially true for fans while many MLB teams gear up for the play offs as both the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox find themselves done for the season. However there was some good news for Chicago Bulls fans as they saw their city’s basketball team return to the hard court for their first pre-season game of the year.

This pre season matchup took place Tuesday at the United Center in Chicago and featured a Bulls team that already looked good for early on in the season. The Bulls pulled out a win at their home pre-season opener in a close showdown against the Memphis Grizzlies. The late game play from players such as Taj Gibson helped the Bulls seal their victory against the Grizzlies and while the entire team looked ready for another successful season, most noticeably absent from the lineup was the Chicago Bulls’ star player Derrick Rose.

After Rose faced a number of injuries last year even while leading the team in scoring, and is taking as much time in the off season and pre-season to continue the recovery process until regular season play commences. Although the game against the Grizzlies was only a pre-season matchup, it was just the lift that Chicago sports fans were looking for in order to get them through the current drought in the Chicago sports world. While there is still no word on the Blackhawks season which is still suspended until late October, fans can be expected to pay more attention than ever to the Bulls pre-season play as they gear up for the 2012-2013 season. The Bulls will have a game this Friday the 12th of October in nearby Champaign, IL against Cleveland and will be back in their home United Center on Tuesday the 16th against Milwaukee. You won’t want to miss this chance to see some great Chicago sports actions during this slow time in the sports season; do you have your pre-season Chicago Bulls tickets yet?

Chicago Sports October

As the Chicago baseball season came to a close for both the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox, after both teams missed the 2012 playoffs, Chicago baseball fans began to focus on the teams other sports. Unfortunately for hockey fans there was still little news to be excited over as minimal progress was made regarding the current NHL lockout.

As NHL negotiations resumed in Toronto on Monday there was still no sign of a conclusion, meaning Chicago Blackhawk fans will still have some waiting to do before the season can resume. Although this has many worried about the Hawks’ season, there was some good news for Blackhawk fans over the weekend as reports revealed Hossa, after battling injuries, had returned to the ice for a workout. This left many Hawks fans inspired for the upcoming season, whenever it will return.

There was also great news for Chicago Fire fans over the weekend as the city’s soccer team headed on the road to battle the New York Red Bulls. In a very important matchup for the tam, the Fire pulled out a 2-0 victory, and will head into a much needed two week break that will resume on October 20th during their road matchup with New England. As the fire settle in to their short rest period on a high note, a different type of Chicago football also had fans cheering over the weekend. This of course came in the form of the Bears’ matchup with the Jaguars.

Although the game got off to a slow start after an impressive interception from the Bears defense, the team found their strive, crushing the Jaguars on the road in a massive road win. Although the Bears were only favored by 6, they pulled off a 41-3 victory in Jacksonville, cementing themselves as a team to be contended with. This victory lead the Bears to a 4-1 record and has them tied for first place in the NFC North. The Bears hope to continue this streak over next weekend when they will be pitted against rivals the Detroit Lions. Another win could cement the Bears in the top spot in their division, and they will be facing off at their home Soldier Field. The kickoff for this big game is this Sunday and Bears fans are sure to be excited after the team’s recent rankings news, do you have your tickets yet for the big game?
