Boston College Eagles History
The Boston College Eagles were established in 1892. Drum became the first head coach of the team and the Eagles were captained by O'Connell. The team played their first official match on October 26, 1893, against St. John's Literary Institute of Cambridge .They won the game by a score of 4–0. The 1940 year is considered as one of the successful season of the team. The Eagles remain undefeated with 11-0 and won the 1941 Sugar Bowl championship. Their fans started calling them the "Team of Destiny". The 1980s era is known as "The Flutie Era". From 1981 to 1984, Doug Flutie played for Boston College. He won the won the Heisman Trophy in his senior year. On November 23, 1984, he led the Eagles to victory in a high-scoring, back-and-forth game against Miami Hurricanes. In December 1996, BC hired a 1971 Navy graduate, Tom O'Brien. He turned the program into consistent top-25 team. The Eagles finished 1999 regular season with 8–3. They went on building some respectable win-loss records and winning many bowl games. The Eagles won the Motor City Bowl in 2002 season. In 2004 season, they finished with 9–3 record and won Continental Tire Bowl. The Boston College Eagles set another record of winning back to back 11 games. The team play their home games at Alumni Stadium.
