The Beach Boys are a rock band that formed in 1961 and originally were composed of brothers; Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson with their cousin Mike Love and their friend Al Jardine. One of their biggest hits from the 60s to date is “Good Vibrations.” Their laid back style with incorporated multi-layers of harmonies made them one of the most iconic bands ever.
The band gained popularity pretty quick for their close vocal harmonies and lyrics reflecting on Southern California youth, surfing, romance and cars. Brian Wilson was the dominate member of the band guiding the direction of the band with his creative ambition and songwriting ability.
In 1963, the Beach Boys released Surfin’ USA and it hit number two on the charts and didn’t take long before it went gold. They continued making hits like; “California Girls,” “Help Me,” “Rhonda” and “Barbara Ann.”
The bands quickly became established and were becoming a major force in the music industry with their albums like Pet Sounds and Good Vibrations. The Beach Boys continued to make great music well into the 70s.
Brian Wilson had issues with drugs and other worries that caused him to be absent a portion fofthe band’s career.
During the 80s and the 90s the band still toured and recorded some albums; Keepin’ the Summer Alive in 1980, The Beach Boys in 1985, Still Cruisin’ in 1989, Summer in Paradise in 1992 and Stars and Stripes Vol.1 in 1996.
The Beach Boys kept touring during the early 90s, and Mike and Brian started writing songs together in 1995. The band returned with Stars and Stripes, Vol. 1, a collection of remade hits with country stars singing lead and the group adding backing vocals.
In the mid 90s, Brian Wilson’s documentary titled “I Just Wasn't Made for These Times” aired on the Disney Channel, with an accompanying soundtrack featuring spare renditions of Beach Boys classics by Brian himself.
Regardless of the bands past legal actions and strained relations, all of the surviving band members made a special announcement in June 2011 of new live dates, new recordings and a spate of planned releases for 2012 that would include Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks.
