Boston is a classic rock band originating from Boston, MA having their most notable success during the 70s and 80s. The band is best known for their songs; “More Than a Feeling,” “Rock and Roll Band,” “Peace of Mind,” “Foreplay/Long Time,” “Smokin,” “Amanda” and “Don’t Look Back.” They have sold over 31 million albums in the US.
In 1976, the album Boston was released which were tapes that were recorded in Tom Scholz basement, which included Tom, Brad Delp, Barry Goudreau, Fran Sheehan and John Sib Hashian. The album was a great success with three hit singles; “More Than a Feeling,” “Long Time” and “Peace of Mind.”
Tom Scholz spent the next two years working on the next album. In 1978, Don’t Look Back debut and went platinum silver. The next album, Third Stage debut in 1986 and went platinum. In 1994, Walk On debut; in 2002, Corporate America debut.
The band has moved at a slow pace over the years and dealt with a 7 year legal battle that they won against Epic. The band continues to tour and there is talk about a new album releasing sometime in 2012.
Tom Scholz was not only the mastermind behind Boston but he was successful outside of the band. He formed his own company called Scholz Research & Design, Inc., which was created to create high-tech music equipment. He developed the Power Soak, a volume-control device and developed the Rockman. The Rockman was a small and inexpensive guitar amplifier including headphones.
Boston has had successful career that has impacted the world of music, making them one of the greatest rock bands of all time. The current band members are Tom Scholz, Gary Pihl, Kimberley Dahme, Jeff Nea and Tommy Decarlo. The band continues to tour and fans pack the stands while reminiscing and singing popular classics.
