The all female musical ensemble Celtic Woman is a one of a kind musical act that came together under the supervision of Sharon Browne and David Downes. This group which first formed in 2004 featured the talents of five Irish females musicians who had never performed together in the past. The result the group Celtic Woman and the original line up featured four vocalists and a fiddler. From the moment he group came together it was clear that the were unlike any musical act in music today. The group performs a number of different types of musical selections from modern hits to Celtic tunes and everything in between. Although the line up is often changing, the group’s sound and style of music remain the same.
All of the women in the group are of Celtic origin and together they are often described the deliver a sound and performance similar to Riverdance or Lord of the Dance. To date, Celtic Woman has released six different albums, including Celtic Woman, Celtic Woman: A Christmas Cleebration, Celtic Woman: A New Journey, Celtic Woman: The Greatest Journey, Celtic Woman: Songs from the Heart and Celtic Woman: Believe. All of these albums have gotten the female performers a great deal of commercial and critical success and have helped the group cell more than 6 million records world wide.
Although the group’s albums are undoubtedly successful, the group who have a sound that has been described as everything from new age, to adult contemporary and even folk and classical, is most known for their on-stage performances. They have performed three separate tours in America alone and have done numerous tours over seas. They have done shows in hundreds of cities and even done a December, month-long Christmas Celebration Tour for their fans. However, in 2012 the group will be taking on an entirely new type of tour when they head out on their BELIEVE 2012 Tour. The tour will last most of 2012 and will be taking the group across the United States and into Europe for a tour that will feature some of their biggest individual songs and most famous modern day covers ever recorded. Of course the tour will also feature plenty of selections from their new Celtic Woman: Believe album that was released earlier in 2012.
