When the U.S. rock band, Cheap Trick first formed in 1973, they had no idea that the group from small-town Rockford, Illinois would go on to be one of the biggest hard rock bands in rock n’ roll history. With hits like “Surrender,” “I Want You to Want Me,” “The Flame,” and “Dream Police” to their name; the group is often seen as one of the most successful band in rock history. Although the group achieved their greatest success in the country of Japan; they had a great deal of success in their home country of the United States as well. The rock band has received recognition for their success in the industry by numerous publications and the state of Illinois has even made April 1st, “Cheap Trick Day,” to honor the group.
Shortly after the group came together in the 1970s they released their first, self-titled album. Although it didn’t achieved great commercial success; it put the band on the map and got positive critical review. This album helped the band with the release of their second album In Color, which featured numerous number one hits including a few #1 hits in Japan on the charts. Although this album was extremely successful and helped to launch the band’s careers, many would agree that the band’s third album, Heaven Tonight, was the band’s best. This helped make the band certified superstars in the country of Japan. Eventually their United States success would follow.
The band continued to create rock albums and they toured around the world entertaining fans. Even by the late 1990s, the band showed that they have longstanding success in the industry. They created songs for the hit television show That ‘70s Show, and films like Daddy Day Care and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The band proved they weren’t done entertaining audiences and in 2012 the group announced that they would be embarking on a 2012 summer tour with fellow rock legends, Aerosmith. The two groups are set to come together for the Global Warming Tour; beginning in June of 2012. The tour will mark the highly anticipated return of Cheap Trick to the live touring scene. Even with years in the industry with this upcoming tour, Cheap Trick is showing audiences from all over the globe that they are still around and ready to rock n’ roll.
