Although many may know him as the lead singer of the famous rock band; Hootie and the Blowfish, Darius Rucker is also a very successful solo artist in his own right. During his time with the band, Rucker had six top 40 hits appear on the Billboard Hot 100. Although the band received a great deal of commercial success and critical acclaim, Rucker separated from the group and in 2001, embarked on his solo career.

In 2002, the singer’s first full studio solo album was released, a record called Back to Then. Rucker then went on to embark on another new change when he signed to Capitol Records in Nashville to record a country album. His first solo country album, “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It” achieved Billboard success and showed fans that the former rocker could be just as successful as a country crooner. The song eventually went on to reach the number one spot on the charts, making Rucker the first African American country artist to have a number one hit since 1983.
His first full country album, Learn to Live went on to reach platinum level success and also featured the singles “It Won’t Be Like This for Long,” and “Alright,” two more chart topping hits for the singer. All of Rucker’s singles have also managed to achieve cross over success in the pop industry. Each of his four singles from the album Learn to Live have appeared on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2009, the singer won the CMA New Artist of the Year, making him the second African American to ever win the award. He followed up his success with another number one country hit “Come Back Song,” and then his fifth number one country hit “This,” from the same album.
Fueled by his success as a solo artist and his ability to cross over into country music, Rucker has also began touring around the country promoting his hit singles. In 2012 he is set to hit the road with other country music acts such as Lady Antebellum. With successful career both with a rock band and on his own as a country singer, Darius Rucker has shown that his smooth voice and powerful stage presence have earned him the right to be one of the most celebrated live entertainers in the industry.
