Drake is a Canadian R&B recording artist, song writer and actor. Before his singing career, he played Jimmy Brooks on the television series Degrassi: The Next Generation from 2001- 2009. He started becoming noticed as a singer in 2006 when he initiated a series of mix tapes. A year later, he gained major exposure when his track “Replacement Girl” featuring Trey Songz was featured on BET’s 106 & Park program.
Over the next several months, several mix tapes and remixes popped up, and he gradually became one of the most talked about singers in the industry. Fortunately, he had support from known artists; Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Jay-Z. He has worked with Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Eminem, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj and Rick Ros. He has not only recorded his own music, but Drake has also written for known artists Alicia Keys and Jamie Foxx.
June 2009, his promotional single Best I Ever Had climbed to number two on the Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart.
At the end of the summer in 2009, he released So Far Gone made up of songs from his So Far Gone mix tape. It quickly climbed to number six on the Billboard 200 Chart and won a 2010 Juno Award for Rap Recording of the Year.
Later Drake debut his album, Thank Me Later with collaborations with the-Dream, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Kings of Leon and Kanye West. The album debuted to number one of the Billboard 200 Chart and was a certified platinum album. In 2011, his album Take care was released.
He has been nominated for several awards including Grammy Awards and was even selected to perform at the 2010 Grammy Awards. He has won two Juno Awards in 2010 for Best New Artist and Rap Recording of the Year.
