Although he was born as John Roger Stephens, the American singer-songwriter is known by many by his stage name John Legend. In fact, in just a few short years that stage name has become one of the biggest and most recognized names in music today. During his career, John Legend has not only cemented himself as one of the biggest entertainers in popular music but he has won nine Grammy Awards and received the special Starlight award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame. However, before he reached all of this success with his own work and on his own albums, John Legend was most known for his successful collaborations.
During his rise to the top, John Legend has performed with and appeared on tracks with performers such as Kanye West, Jay Z, Alicia Keys and Lauren Hill. These successful collaborations have not only helped Legend’s career as far as exposure but they have also helped him create an entirely unique sound that is completely his own. By mixing his own soul and jazz sounds together with modern day R&B and hip hop, Legend has crafted a sound that is unlike any other in the business today. He is known for mixing classic and modern sounds together that help him appeal to all types of audiences both young and old.
While his voice is known for captivating many, it is actually his soulful and passionate lyrics that have many captivated by his music. While his career as a solo performer has truly taken off, Legend still manages to make time for side projects, proving that he is as multi-faceted as he is talented. In 2011 he completed a 50-date tour as a guest for the British soul band Sade. Upon completing the tour, Legend announced he would be working on his next studio album, but not before appearing as a judge on the hit ABC music show Duets. In the show Legend judges and performs along side music legends such as Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Nettles and Robin Thicke.
Although fans undoubtedly enjoy seeing Legend in their home television screens through this unique platform, many fans are most anxious to see him performing live on stage. In the fall of 2012 John Legend will be heading back on the road for a nation-wide tour to numerous venues around the country where he will share old and new selections of his music with thousands of his adoring fans.
