When “I Kissed a Girl” was released, Katy Perry’s music career began to grow quickly. She is a mega pop star singer, songwriter and an actress. Not only is she talented, but she is also unique when performing.

In 2001, Katy released Katy Hudson, which is a gospel album that ended up not being successful. She also recorded another album and the majority of a solo album in 2004 – 2005, which ended up never being released.

In 2007, she came up with a stage name, Katy Perry and released her first internet single called “Ur So Gay.” Unfortunately, the song never made the charts. She is the daughter of Christian pastor parents and was raised on Gospel music.

In 2008, the single “I Kissed a Girl” reached the top of international music charts helping her achieve fame quickly. Her first album, One of the Boys became the 33rd best selling album of 2008. The single, “Hot n Cold” was next released and also topped the charts.

In 2009, Billboard named her the 51st best selling music artist of the decade; in 2011 Katy was the first one in history to spend 53 consecutive weeks in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100, which ended up being a total of 69 consecutive weeks in the top ten of the Hot 100.

Her third album Teenage Dream was released in 2010 and reached number one on the Billboard 200 charts and became the 11th best selling album worldwide in 2010. Katy’s single Firework was released shortly after making number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for four consecutive weeks. Because of her success with three consecutive number one singles from an album, she became the first female artist in 11 years to accomplish it. She earned two Teen Choice Awards in 2010.

In 2011, Katy Perry has sold over 40 million digital tracks and sold over 11 million albums worldwide making her one of the best selling artists of all time; MTV elected her the Artist of the Year too. She released her fourth single, a remix featuring Kanye West called “E.T” that went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for five consecutive weeks. Later that year she released her fifth single, Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F), which is a remix featuring Missy Elliot. She then released her sixth single, “The One That Got Away” reaching number three on the Hot 100 charts.

Not only has Katy Perry had great music success, she has also launched two successful fragrances, “Purr” and “Meow.”

She has also appeared on the following shows and films; The Young and the Restless, Wildfire, Life’s Too Short, The Fight Before Christmas, Get Him to the Greek, voice of Smurfette in the movie The Smurfs and voice in The Muppets.

Katy Perry has achieved a lot of success in a short period of time. When she wasn’t getting what she wanted in the beginning of her music career, she made changes to get what she wanted with her career. We can expect more great things from Katy as the future unfolds.
