Nicki Minaj is a hip-hop Singer and song writer who launched her debut album, Pink Friday in 2010. Also, in 2010, her single “Your Love” topped the Billboard charts, which was one of seven songs of hers that were featured on the Billboard’s Hot 100.
Her career started when she wanted to make it in the music business and took on a variety of back-up singing roles for some New York City rappers. She later became inspired to write her own material and it wasn’t long after that she would eventually be discovered by Dirty Money’s CEO Fendi. He came across Nicki’s Myspace page and fell in love with what he heard and signed her to his label.
After Nicki connected with Fendi, she met with rap artist, Lil Wayne who worked with her on a series of mix tapes. In 2007, her first mix tape, “Playtime is Over” was released and later more mix tapes were released.
April 2010, her first single was released called “Massive Attack.” It wasn’t long after that she won a BET Award for Best Hip-Hop Female, which she dedicated to Lil Wayne when she accepted the award.
On her debut album, Pink Friday there are several other artists featured including; Kanye West, Drake, Natasha Bedingfield, Eminem, Will.I.Am and Rihanna.
Recently at the February 12, 2012 Grammy’s she didn’t win a Grammy, but she certainly delivered quite a performance on stage. It was said by MTV, “she led the audience through a rap exorcism of sorts. At one point, she even levitated, while speaking in tongues and jumping around against a fiery backdrop.” From her initial red carpet moment to her performance, it will be a memorable time for millions of fans, which was even expressed all over Twitter.
Nicki is a new artist who has gained overnight success with singles hitting the Billboard charts and being nominated for an award at the Grammys. We can expect to see more upcoming albums with live performances and concerts in the near future. She is unique in many ways with the way she dresses and performs, fans will be eager to purchase tickets as soon as she goes on tour. She has already started seeing success and many are eager to find out what is next for her, and time will certainly tell.
