Artists and professional percussionist, Ringo Starr, not only has fame in his own right, but was once part of the biggest and most famous bands in all of music history; the Beatles. The drummer joined the band in 1962 and not only served as the band’s drummer but lent his vocal talents to some of their biggest hits as well including “Yellow Submarine,” “act Naturally” and “With a Little Help from My Friends.” Not only were his vocals instrumental in the band’s success but he also helped to write many of their hit songs including “What Goes On” and “Don’t Pass Me By.” He has been awarded with Grammy Awards, World Music Awards and numerous accolades for his musical achievements.
Starr is often considered to be one of the most unique and creative drummers in all of rock n’ roll. He is often noted for bringing attention to the skills and importance of drummers in rock bands. He was also picked by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the top five drummers of all time, according to a 2011 issue of the magazine. While Starr will forever be associated with the success of the Beatles, he also went on to have a successful solo career after the band broke up.
Ringo Starr went on to release numerous single and albums and even recorded individually with each of the members of the Beatles. In 1989 he formed his group; Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band. The band has had 11 different lineup changes during their numerous tours through the past two decades. In 2002 the artist was inducted into the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame, cementing him as one of the most respected drummers in all of music.
In the year 2010, Ringo Starr released his 15th studio album, titled Y Not. The legendary former Beatle went on to perform on numerous television shows that year such as The Jay Leno Show and The Daily Show with John Stewart. Proving he still had a strong fan following nearly 40 years after joining the Beatles, Ringo released his 2012 album “Ringo 2012” and decided to embark on another global tour with his “All Starr Band.” The 2012 lineup will include musicians such as Steve Lukather, Gregg Rolie and Mark Rivera. The tour is set to last from June-July of 2012.
