Comedian Sarah Silverman is known for being one of the funniest women in entertainment today. The funny lady got her start as a stand up performer in New York, but soon hit the entertainment world full force. Her first big gig was as a writer and occasional guest star on the hit television show Saturday Night Live. However, the writer only lasted one season on the show because none of her sketches ever aired. However, SNL was a platform for the performer as she soon appeared on numerous television shows such as The Larry Sanders Show, Mr. Show and Seinfeld. Her work on the HBO sketch comedy show, Mr. Show, got her standup routines noticed. In addition to numerous stand up performances on the road, she released a concert film titled; Sarah Silverman: Jesus is Magic.
Silverman was known mostly for her controversial material, that covered virtually every topic from social taboos to racism and religion. Her raw and unapologetic material gained the comedian a large following and she was soon considered to be one of the top female comedians in the business. Despite being one of the few women in stand up comedy, Silverman continued to gain great attention and even scored her own television sitcom on the Comedy Central network. The show titled The Sarah Silverman Program; was a huge ratings success and gave the network the highest premier of any of its show in three years; showing the popularity of the comedian’s work. The show went on to win the performer a Primetime Emmy Award.
The comedian went on to perform in numerous television shows and movies, proving her knack for acting and even taking on several dramatic roles. While she has gained great critical praise for her work as an actor, her standup comedy routines are what have continued to make the actress a household name and what many fans love about the bold and controversial comedian. Silverman will be taking her satirical act on the road once again during the summer of 2012. Her one woman show is expected to be one of her biggest and most controversial yet.
