The American folk band, Bon Iver first formed in 2007 under the guidance of indie-folk singer and songwriter Justin Vernon. Together with fellow band mates Sean Caret, Matthew McCaughan and Michael Noyce the group came together and quickly took the music industry by storm. Their unique sound, which has been described as everything from indie rock to folk and even rock n’ roll helped them make an impression with their first album, For Emma, Forever Ago. The album was released independently in the July of 2007 and quickly gave the band a dedicated underground following.
When their first album began to take off, the group began doing numerous live performances and started getting the attention of Hollywood elite. Their songs were featured on programs such as Chuck, One Tree Hill, Grey’s Anatomy, the United States of Tara, Skins and House. The album started getting a great deal of critical acclaim as well. Despite being an independent record recorded in a small cabin in northwestern Wisconsin, For Emma, Forever Ago was ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as being one of the Top 50 Albums of 2008 and one of the 100 Best Albums of 2000s.
The band also started to see some cross over success as well when rapper and R&B artist Kanye West featured had the band appear on his album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and the band was also asked to contribute a song to the Twilight Saga: New Moon soundtrack. With all of this success under their belt with just one independent record, Bon Iver went on to record their second album titled Bon Iver, Bon Iver. Once released the album garnered even more attention than the group’s first solo effort and earned the group critical acclaim and two Grammy Awards. Bon Iver won both the 2012 Grammy Award for Best New Artist as well as the 2012 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album for their sophomore effort.
The band’s success and acclaim also earned them hoards of new and adoring fans. These fans will get the chance to see the group and hear their unique folk sound live this fall when the group hits the road on a nation-wide tour. The tour will be taking the group to numerous venues around the country so they can get up close and personal with fans around the nation.
