The Dave Matthews Band is a rock band that started in 1991. The band is known for their lengthy summer tours spanning across the US and Europe, featuring lengthy renditions of their songs, accompanied by an elaborate video and lighting show. The Dave Matthews Band has sold over 40 million albums worldwide and has won one Grammy Award and a NAACP Chairman’s Award.
The band started when Dave Matthews decided to put some of his songs he written, along with some instrumental assistance to give his songs more depth on tape. After perfecting the songs, the band was born.
The style fusion includes different music genres; jazz, soul; classical, rock, hip-hop and bluegrass combined create an eclectic sound attracting fans from all over the music spectrum. The band presented a pop-oriented version of the Grateful Dead crossed with jazz, funk and world beat explorations of Paul Simon and Sting elements combined. Dave Matthews Band has gained a fan base that has sold out some of the largest arenas worldwide.
The founding members of the band were Dave Matthews (singer, songwriter & guitarist), Stefan Lessard (bassist), Carter Beauford (drummer & backing vocalist), LeRoi Moore (saxophonist) who later died from complications and Boyd Tinsley (violinist) who joined the band later on. Jeff Coffin filled LeRoi’s spot as a saxophonist.
The Dave Matthews Band has always had loyal fans because there are not any concerts ever performed the same, and they really put everything into each and every live performance. It is rare, but the band does allow their fans to record their music and concerts.

The band has been nominated for three American Music Awards, nominated for 13 Grammy Awards, won one Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group for “So Much To Say” in 1997, received six nominations for the MTV Video Music Awards, won four VH1 Music Awards and won a NAACP Chairman’s Award.
