The Doobie Brothers are one of the most popular, pop rock bands of the 70s selling over 40 million albums worldwide. In 2004, they were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame; also throughout their career, they racked up a string of gold and platinum albums. The band is known for their hits; “Black Water” and “China Grove.”
It all started with a group named Pud, a California country-rock band featuring Tom Johnston and John Hartman. After the band ended in 1969, the pair started jamming with Dave Shogren - bassist and Patrick Simmons - guitarist. Eventually, they decided to form a group and they named it the Doobie Brothers, which is a slang term for marijuana.
The band’s debut their first album in 1971, and it didn’t even get noticed. Later, Dave Shogren was replaced by Tiran Porter and the band added a second drummer, Michael Hossack.
The second album debut in 1972, Toulouse Street, which was driven by the singles “Listen to the Music” and “Jesus is Just Alright.” In 1973, “The Captain and Me” was even more successful with two top ten hits; “Long Train Runnin’: and “China Grove.”

Over the course of the band’s career, they have had many band member changes. The current band members have proven to be remarkably stable in its core membership since 1993. The band features one-half of the four original members - Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons.
July 2010, The Doobie Brothers announced their new album, World Gone Crazy, which was produced with their long-time producer Ted Templeman and released in September. At that time, they also announced their plans to release a DVD compilation of the bands live performances and television appearances from throughout their career.
The Doobie Brothers are one of the most unique and best bands of all time who have debut 13 albums. Their latest album was released in 2010 called World Gone Crazy. The band continues to tour and fans continue to jam to their hits.
