George Strait has been known as the King of Country and referred to as a living legend and country music superstar. He is a country music singer, actor and music producer. He is known for his unique western-swing music style, bar-room ballads, honky-tonk style and fresh traditional country music. Also, he holds the world record for the most number one hit singles than any other artist in the history of music.
He is one of country music’s most respected artists who have recorded more than 30 albums and 400 songs over the course of his career. Of those 400 songs, he has had 58 number one hits. George has been nominated for more CAM and ACM awards than any other country star. Some of his popular songs include;”Fool Hearted Memory,” “I Cross My Heart” and “Ace in the Hole.”
Out of any other country artist from the 80s, George stayed the closest to traditional country music. He didn’t change the honky-tonk and Western swing traditions; instead he revitalized them for a new decade.
George started playing music as a teenager and ended up joining a rock and roll garage band. Later in enlisted into the army and started playing country music with an Army country music band called Rambling Country. Later, he enrolled into a university and while studying he formed his own country music band called Ace in the Hole. The band made a few albums, but they never went anywhere in the late 70s.
In 1980, he was signed to a label and released his first single Unwound in 1981. The single quickly climbed into the Top Ten. Throughout the 80s, George dominated the country singles charts with his albums consistently hitting platinum or gold status.
Within the first decade of his career, he released seven number one hit albums including; “Fool Hearted Memory” and “Ocean Front Property.” By the 90s, he had over 20 number one hits including; “Heartland” and “Blue Clear Sky.”
In the turn of the 21st Century, George was named Artist of the Decade by the Academy of Country Music and was elected into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He won his first Grammy Award for his hit album, Troubadour.
