The Decemberists Tickets
Formed out of Portland, Oregon, the band the Decemberists have managed to come a long way since their humble beginnings on the rock music scene. The Grammy Award nominated group formed in 2000 and released their first full record Castaways and Cutouts in 2003. The album gained the band a significant underground following. As fans began to hear the group’s unique sound live, the groups popularity began to rise until they eventually achieved mainstream success.
In 2011, The Decembrists’ six full-length album, titled The King Is Dead was released. The album featured the single “Down by the Water” which was nominated for Best Rock Song at the 2011 Grammy Awards. While many appreciate the bands mixture of indie and folk rock music, and their tendency to combine the sound of numerous musical instruments, it is the lyrical content in their songs that is perhaps what has made them stand out in the industry. Many of their songs will focus on folklore or historical events.
In addition to their recordings, a great deal of the band’s success can be contributed to their stage performances. With concert performances unlike those of any other rock band in history; fans of The Decembrists will never be bored by their concert experience. The band makes an effort to have audiences participate in each of their shows and their eclectic live performances usually include reenactments of historical events. The band has been known to reenact sea battles or regionally historical battles in the different cities that they visit. Most notably during the band’s 2010 European tour, they pretended to die on stage while encouraging the audience to scream as if they were being eaten by a whale, from the comfort of their seats.
With concert experiences that can only be described as unique, that combines theatrical performances, numerous instruments and the soothing voice of lead singer Colin Meloy, very few fans of the group will want to miss the opportunity to see The Decembrists perform. With consistent tours around the world occurring yearly, those who want to see the live-action performances themselves and experience the high-energy performances put on by the band, have numerous opportunities to do so.
