With his creative and spontaneous performances and his extensive musical talent, Bruce Hornsby, has managed to emerge as one of the most successful and unique performers in music today. During Bruce Hornsby’s career he has won numerous awards that have proved that he is more than just an entertaining act for live performances. He won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1987 when he performed alongside his band in Bruce Hornsby and the Range. This group also went on to win two more Grammy Awards during their time together. Although Hornsby’s time with The Range was successful he saw even more success with other groups and on his own as well. He has performed with a jazz act called The Bruce Hornsby Trio, currently performs with Bruce Hornsby and the Noise Makers and has collaborated with numerous artists during his time as a performer.
Hornsby is not only known for his unique sound but for his meaningful lyrics as well. He is known for making numerous references to cultural issues and to literature in his songs. Many of his singles have seen great success, most notably on the Billboard Bluegrass charts. While his singles and his performances on his tours and at numerous jazz festivals around the country have given the artist great success, he has made other contributions to the musical world as well. The artist has written songs for the Broadway Musical “SCKBSTD,” composed the score for the Spike Lee, ESPN documentary “Kobe Doin’ Work, which was a biographical film about Kobe Bryant, and has endowed the Bruce Hornsby Creative American Music Program at the University of Miami.
With so many different contributions to the musical world, there is no denying Bruce Hornsby’s validity as an artist. However, his biggest gift to his fans still continues to be his live performances. After taking a brief break from touring in 2010, the singer will be hitting the road once again in 2012 to perform at numerous festivals and theatre venues around the country.
