The band formed in the 1990s when they were all in separate bands at Teignmouth Community College.  In 1998, the band released Muse EP and in 1999, released Muscle Museum EP before releasing their seminal album Showbiz in 1999.  The album charted at number 29 in the UK and number 28 in Australia and received Gold certification in both the United Kingdom and in Australia.  Origin of Symmetry came next and found the band in the top 3 of the British charts, as well as their first time on the Billboard 200.

Absolution was the band’s third album and was the band’s first album to chart at both the top of Billboard’s Heatseekers chart as well as placed number one on the UK Albums chart.  The album reached Gold status in the United States, as well as Platinum in both the UK and in Australia.  After two years of heavy touring as well as a landmark performance at 2004’s Glastonbury Festival, the band went back into the studio to record Black Holes and Revelations.

In 2006, Black Holes and Revelations came out to high critical acclaim, was at the top of the charts in four different countries, and was the first Muse album to chart in the top-ten of the Billboard 200.  The album was certified Platinum three times over by the BPI.  After another world tour, the band released The Resistance.  The album was the first to be self-produced by the band, and it topped the charts in 19 different countries, and was the third consecutive album to reach the top spot on the British charts.  The album also won the 2011 Grammy for Best Rock Album.

The band released their sixth studio album, The 2nd Law in October of 2012.  The band was a true representation of all of their influences as they feature a much stronger electronic influence on the album.  Despite a lukewarm reception on Pitchfork, the album charted at number one in nine different countries and they reached their highest peak position to date on the Billboard 200 by reaching the second spot.
