The English rock band the who was first formed in 1964 and featured the unique sound brought together by singer Roger Daltrey, guitarist Pete Towshend, bassist John Entwistle and drummer Keith Moon. Once together, ‘The Who’ quickly became known for their one of a kind, British sound and for being one of the first bands to introduce instrument destruction. During their time as a group they have gone on to be one of the most successful and honored rock groups in history both in the United States and the United Kingdom.
To date The Who has sold more than 100 million records and 27 of their different songs have become Top 40 singles both in the UK and the US. During their time as a band, which lasted during the 1960s and the 1970s, the band released numerous hit albums and became one of the most popular bands in rock and roll history. Although the band would go on to produce several albums follow the death of their drummer Keith Moon, the majority of their most successful albums were produced during these two decades. The band has long been compared to the Beatles in terms of success and popularity and are still one of the most listened to bands in music today. Their fame was recognized in 1990, when in the first year of eligibility the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Even after several breakups and reunions and the death of Moon, there is very little that could mask the popularity of The Who who in 2010 proved they were just as popular as eve when they performed at the Super Bowl XLIV half time show. In August of 2012, shortly after announcing their plans for a 35 day tour, The Who also garnered the attention of the entire world once again when they performed at the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic Games. The performance proved that The Who are still considered one of the greatest rock bands today, and they plan on carrying that greatness on to their 2012 tour. Their latest road show will bring them to some of the biggest venues in the world as they play songs from their latest album, titled Quadrophenia as well as some of the classic favorites that fans of all ages are sure to enjoy.
