Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets History
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets were established in 1892. The Tech played its first football game on November 5, 1892 against Mercer University. In 1893, the Tech played against the University of Georgia for the first time. They defeated Georgia 28–6 for the school's first-ever victory. The Tech hired Heisman after 1903 season. He led the team to 8–1–1 performance and posted 5-game winning streak against the hated Georgia Bulldogs from 1904–1908. Heisman coached Tech until 1919. Under him, the team had 104 wins over 16 seasons. The tech led to their first national title in 1917. Heisman left the team in 1919 and William Alexander became the new coach of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The winning trend continued under the coaching of William Alexander. In 1920 season, the team won an SIAA title and finished the season with a win over rival Auburn. The Tech went 9–0 in their first 9 games in 1927 season. The team attended their first bowl game in the following season as they posted a perfect 9-0 record. They won the game with game 8–7 and became the 10–0 undefeated National Champions of 1928. Since inception, the tech has won four Division I-A college football national championships and fifteen conference titles. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets play their home games at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Historic Grant Field.
