Marquette Golden Eagles Mens Basketball Tickets
The Marquette Golden Eagles men’s basketball team is a Division I program for Marquette University. The team is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and play their home games at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. The Bradley Center has a capacity of 18,850 people and was built in 1988. Marquette plays in the Big East conference. The team is currently coached by Buzz Williams, who in his four seasons as head coach of the Golden Eagles, has compiled a record of 96-44, with four-straight NCAA Tournament appearances and four-straight 20-win seasons.
The team began in 1916, and found itself as an independent between their conception and 1989 when they joined the Midwestern Collegiate Conference. In 1970, Marquette became the only team in history to turn down an invitation to the NCAA Tournament, electing instead to play in the NIT so they could have home-court advantage and play more games. In 1977, the team won its first and only NCAA Tournament Championship after making the championship game three years prior in 1974. Throughout the school’s history, they have reached a high-level of success in basketball, making 29 NCAA Tournaments and compiling a record of 36-28 in the NCAA Tournament. In 2003, under the direction of coach Tom Crean, Dwayne Wade and Steve Novak among others led the Golden Eagles to their first Final Four since 1977.
Since 1948, Marquette has featured 50 players that went on to be selected in the NBA Draft. Of those, only seven have been selected in the first round, most recently Jimmy Butler in 2011.
The team plays a number of rivalry games each year. Annually they play conference rivals Louisville Cardinals, who came to the Big East with the Golden Eagles from Conference USA together, as well as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Pittsburgh Panthers and the DePaul Blue Demons are also conference rivals; however, Marquette’s biggest rivalry game each year is not a conference game. Since their first meeting and every year since 1930 except for a small gap from 1954 to 1957, the Golden Eagles have faced off against the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In their 118 meetings, the Badgers hold a 64-54 advantage; however, Marquette did win their last matchup in Madison.
