The Nebraska Cornhuskers men’s basketball team is a Division I program for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The team is located in Lincoln, Nebraska and plays their home games at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Bob Devaney Sports Center has a capacity of 13,595 people and opened in 1976. The team plays in the Big Ten Conference. The team is currently coached by Tim Miles. This is Miles’ first year coaching the team.

While Nebraska’s football team has been a consistent national powerhouse, the basketball team has not reached anywhere near the same amount of success. After starting their program in 1896, the team reached a high measure of success in its early years. In the 1910s, the team won four conference championships, winning in 1912, 1913, 1914, and 1916. Since that time, after winning shares of the conference title in 1949 and 1950, the team has been incredibly bad. It took the team until 1986 to make their first NCAA Tournament appearance, and despite making six trips, the team has never won a game in the NCAA Tournament. Under Danny Nee, the team went to five of their six NCAA Tournaments, and Nee left the team with a record of 254-190, making him the all-time winningest coach in team history.
While not known for their prowess on the court, the team has featured five players who have won academic all-American honors, including Beau Reid who won twice in both 1989 and 1991. Nebraska has featured 26 players that have been selected in the NBA Draft. Of those, three have been chosen in the first round. They are Tyronn Lue in 1998, Eric Piatkowski in 1994, and Rich King in 1991.
Despite their relative lack of success, Nebraska finds itself embattled in a fierce rivalry with the Kansas Jayhawks. The Jayhawks lead decisively, 169-71, and on a national level as well; however, these two teams still have a fierce rivalry. Much of this is due to the two team’s first matchup in 1900 where Nebraska won 48-8 and Kansas did not make a field goal.
