New Hampshire Wildcats History
The New Hampshire Wildcats started their journey of thousand miles in 1902 but did not hired an official coach for themselves. They gave mediocre performances in their first two seasons but showed improvement in 1904-05 season, going 6-4. They appointed their first head coach in 1907-08 season. When Alexander Gion guided the team for the first time, they posted an outstanding 8-3 record during that season. In the following next two seasons, they again hit the floor without any official head coach but posted 6-5 and 5-3 in 1908-09 and 1909-1910 respectively. When Butch Cowell was appointed as the head coach of the team in 1916–17 season. The wildcats started showing further improvement, posting 11–3 record in his second season(1918–19) with them. Butch coached the team for 11 seasons and compiled a spectacular 119-54 record during his tenure. They joined the Yankee conference in 1937 and posted an outstanding 11-6 overall record in their first season(1937–38) with the team. The Wildcats became the member of America East Conference in 1980 and posted a winning record 16-12 in 1982–83 season under the head coach Gerry Friel. The New Hampshire Wildcats play their home games at Lundholm Gym, a superb place to witness a great game.
