North Carolina State Wolfpack Mens Basketball Tickets
The North Carolina State Wolfpack men’s basketball team is a Division I program for North Carolina State University. The team is located in Raleigh, North Carolina and play their home games at the PNC Arena. The PNC Arena has a capacity of 19,722 people and was built in 1999. The team plays in the Atlantic Coast Conference, known as the ACC. The team is currently coached by Mark Gottfried. In his first year as coach of the team, he led the Wolfpack to a 24-13 record, earning a Sweet Sixteen berth after defeating the third seeded Georgetown Hoyas in the Third Round.
The team first began playing basketball in 1911, and over the course of their hundred-year history, have achieved quite a bit of success. The team won its first conference tournament in 1929; however, they really hit their stride in the period right after World War II. Everett Case took over in 1946, and under Case, the team went an astounding 377-134, with six Southern Conference titles, four ACC titles, and two NCAA Tournament berths. In 1967, Norm Sloan took over, and that lead to the team’s first National Championship. Under Sloan, the team made two NCAA Tournament appearances, and took home three conference tournament championships. Jim Valvano then took over for Sloan and led the team to its greatest success, posting a winning record in each of his ten seasons as head coach. To go along with NCAA Tournament berths in seven of his ten years, Valvano also won a miraculous National Championship over a highly touted Houston team, which featured future all-stars Clyde Drexler and Hakeem Olajuwon. After Valvano was fired, the team has garnered only tepid amounts of success, most recently in 2012 when the team reached the Sweet Sixteen for only the second time since Valvano left in 1990. The team has featured 51 players selected in the NBA Draft, including twelve first round picks.
The Wolfpack play a variety of rivalry games; however, none take on as much importance as their two annual meetings with the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. The Tar Heels dominate the series between these two teams, holding a commanding 147-75 lead; however, in Raleigh, the Wolfpack are a respectable 44-57 against their in-state rival, with Everett Case being the only coach in school history to post a winning record against the Tar Heels.
