Salt Lake City is the capital and most populated city of Utah and is known for its skiing and outdoor recreation tourist attractions. The city’s strong outdoor recreation presence even had the city host the 2002 Winter Olympics. In addition to the numerous outdoor events in the city; Salt Lake City is also the industrial banking center of the United States, giving the city a strong climate. The city is also home to numerous museums including the National History Museum of Utah, the Fort Douglas Military Museum and the Utah Museum of Fine Arts.
Although there are several amateur teams in the city, there are only two professional sports teams in the city. Basketball fans can watch the Utah Jazz, the NBA team, play their home games in the EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City. This is the only professional sports team from the top four professional sports programs, in the entire state. The Utah Jazz basketball team is one of the most successful in the NBA and draws large crowds for most home games. There is also the Real Salt Lake team; the city’s professional MLS team. They play at their Rio Tinto Stadium; a soccer-only stadium completed in 2008.
Those looking to see live concert events and live theatrical performances in Salt Lake City, have a number of opportunities to take advantage of. The city is able to draw in many off-Broadway and traveling Broadway shows every year. The traveling performances are typically held at the downtown historic Capitol Theatre. There are also local acting companies in the city such as the Salt Lake Acting Company, the Plan-B Theatre Company and the Pioneer Theater Company, where locals can buy tickets to see live performances of many beloved plays.
Those interested in music can see performances at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, the University of Utah and at the Repertory Dance Theatre. There is also the Utah Symphony Orchestra who play downtown at Abravanel Hall. Bigger concert tours often play downtown at the EnergySolutions Arena.Salt Lake City also hosts the Twilight Concert series every summer in downtown Pioneer Park.
