The city of Seattle, Washington may be known as the rainiest city in the United States, but this north-western town, has much more to offer visitors and residents of Seattle alike with a number of attractions. With its great Native American presence, there are a number of historical monuments and museums in the area. Seattle is also home to the world-famous Space Needle; the city’s most recognizable landmark. The city is also located within close proximity to the Canada-United States border making for easy travel to the country. The city is the largest seaport off of the Pacific Ocean and helps facilitate major trade with Asia. Seattle is home to numerous culturally rich neighborhoods and several downtown city parks that have made the greater metropolitan area very diverse.
There are a few different professional sports teams who have made their home in the city of Seattle. The Seattle Mariners, the city’s professional baseball team, hold their home MLB games in the downtown Safeco Field park. Football fans can get tickets to the professional NFL football games played by the Seattle Seahawks. Home games for the team are played at CenturyLink Field. Century Link Field is also the home to the Seattle Sounder MLS soccer team.
Those interested in the performing arts have a number of opportunities to see live shows in the city of Seattle. The Seattle Opera and the Pacific Northwest Ballet both call the city home and perform at McCaw Haw in downtown. There is also the Seattle Symphony Orchestra who recently celebrated their 100th year of performing. Tickets to see the symphony can be bought for their live performances at Benaroya Hall. Area inhabitants looking for more modern musical performances can find numerous small clubs and bars that host live music, especially live rock music. As the home of the grunge music scene, several venues can be found in the city that showcase grunge, indie and punk music bands.
Theater lovers also have numerous opportunities as there are several theaters within the city. The 5th Avenue Theatre downtown hosts numerous Broadway-style musical theatre shows. There are over two dozen theatre venues in the city including the Moore Theatre; a performing arts venue that has been hosting events for over 100 years.
