Atlanta Hawks History
The Atlanta Hawks entered into the world of Basketball as Buffalo Bisons in 1946. After playing 13 games in their inaugural session, the team moved to "Tri-Cities", which is now called the Quad Cities. They were renamed as Tri-Cities Blackhawks and became one of the National Basketball Association's 17 original teams after a merger NBL-BAA in 1949. In the NBA's inaugural season, the team qualified for the playoff. In 1951, the franchise relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and became the Milwaukee Hawks. After some disappointing seasons, the Hawks reached to the finals in 1957 but unfortunately lost to Boston Celtics. In the following year, the team reached the finals and faced the Boston Celtics again. The team turned the things round. They won the series with 4–2 and clinched their first and only NBA Championship. In 1968, the team was sold to Tom Cousins and Carl Sanders. They shift the team to Atlanta, Georgia and the team got its current name. They won their first division title in the 1969–70 season with a 48–34 record in the Western Division. From 1985–89, the team won 50 plus game in each season. They captured another division title in 1986-87 with a franchise record 57–25. In the 1993–94 season, the team won 57 games and got their fourth division title in Atlanta & third in the Central Division. Wilkens won the coach of the year award. The Atlanta Hawks play their home games at Philips Arena.
