Throughout their existence, the team has featured 16 different head coaches, starting with Buster Ramsey.  Marv Levy coached the team from 1986 through 1997 and is the only Bills coach enshrined into the Hall of Fame as a coach.  Through his tenure, he went 112-70, and won Coach of the Year in 1988 and in 1993.  The team has made 17 playoff appearances, with 10 division championships.  The team has won four consecutive conference championships from 1990 to 1993; however, they lost in each of the four Super Bowls they played in.  The team did win two AFL Championships.

The team has featured nine Hall of Famers: O.J. Simpson, Billy Shaw, Marv Levy, Jim Kelly, James Lofton, Moe DeLamielleure, Thurman Thomas, Bruce Smith, and Ralph Wilson.  The team has retired only one number, Jim Kelly’s #12.  Kelly led the team to each of their four Super Bowl appearances, in addition to his four Pro Bowl appearances, and his appearance on the All-Pro team in 1991.  In his tenure as a Bill, O.J. Simpson made six Pro Bowls, in addition to making the All-Pro team five times and led the league in rushing four out of five years between 1972 and 1976, as well as being one of two Bills to ever win the MVP Award.  Thurman Thomas also won the award in 1991.

The Bills 3 main rivals are their division foes: the Miami Dolphins, the New York Jets, and the New England Patriots.  The Bills and Dolphins have faced off over 90 times, with the Dolphins holding a 55-36-1 advantage.  The Bills and Jets, despite both stating that they are from New York, only features one team who actually plays their games in the state of New York (the Jets play in East Rutherford, New Jersey).  In their 103 meetings, the Bills hold a 54-49 lead.  The Bills and Patriots have never really overlapped in terms of dominance with the Bills holding a commanding lead during the 1980s, while the Patriots have been the far more dominant team in the 21^st century.
