Buffalo Sabres History
The Buffalo Sabres were established in 1970. The team acquired Perreault in 1970 NHL Amateur Draft. He scored 38 goals in his rookie season of 1970–71. Perreault was awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy for scoring most goals by a rooke in NHL. The Sabres finished with a tie for the best record in the NHL in the 1974–75 regular season. They advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in team history and played against Philadelphia Flyers and won the game. Unfortunately, the team lost rest of the games and failed to win the Stanley Cup. Pierre Turgeon was drafted by the Sabres as the 1st overall pick in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft. He made an immediate impact in the team. The Sabres reach to the playoff for the first time in three years in 1987-88 season. The team finished the following season with 98 points. This was the third best points in the league. They made it to the playoff but sadly lost to the Montreal in the first round. The team again made the playoff appearances. They defeated the Bruins in a four-game sweep in the Adams Division semifinals. This was observed as their first playoff series victory in 10 years. But the Sabres lost the finals to the Montreal by a score of 4-3. Since inception, the team has won 3 conference championships, 6 division championships and a presidents' trophy. The Buffalo Sabres play their home games at First Niagara Center.
