The Carolina Panthers are a professional American football team who call the city of Charlotte, North Carolina home. The team is currently part of the South Division of the National Football Conference and are one of the newest teams in the league today. They joined the NFL in 1995 as an expansion team along with the Jacksonville Jaguar. Despite being one of the youngest teams in the league, the Carolina Panthers have quickly established themselves as a dominating force in the NFL and have even appeared in a Super Bowl, a feat that many much more established teams have yet to accomplish when they competed in Super Bowl XXXVIII in Houston. They also won the 1996 NFC West division championships after only being a team for a year and have won two NFC South Championships, ac NFC Championship and made four different playoff appearances.
The Carolina Panthers don black, panther blue, silver and white uniforms when they take the field and often appear alongside their team mascot “Sir Purr.” The team is owned by a board of 15 members, and is primarily owned by Jerry Richardson. For their first year as a team the Carolina Panthers played at Memorial Stadium in Clemson South Carolina while awaiting their new home stadium. In 1996 their stadium, the Bank of America Stadium which the team still calls home.
In recent years, the Carolina Panthers have been known for their success with their 2011 first round draft pick, Cam Newton; the team’s starting quarterback. The team’s young but talented leader quickly broke numerous league records and catapulted the Panthers to a different level of success. The Carolina Panthers continue to be a force in the NFL today and are known for their numerous rivals with other southern teams. Since becoming established as a team they have developed rivalries with the Atlanta Falcons, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys and the Arizona Cardinals. Whether playing one of their many rivals or any other team in the league, fans can expect the Carolina Panthers to continue to be one of the most exciting and unpredictable teams in the NFL.
