Chelsea FC Tickets
Throughout the course of the team’s more than 100-year history, Chelsea FC, or “The Blues” as they are affectionately known as have achieved quite a bit of success, a lot of which has come in the last two decades. The team plays in the English Premier League, and plays its matches at Stamford Bridge in London, England. With the team’s recent success, they have also become a very valuable club, ranked seventh most valuable at a staggering $761 million USD. The team is owned by Roman Abramovich, a Russian business tycoon.
In March 1905, the team was founded by Gus Mears after acquiring Stamford Bridge, and decided to start his own team after Fulham turned down his offer of using the stadium. By the team’s second season, they were promoted to the First Division, although they bounced between the top-2 divisions in their inaugural years. By 1920, they finished third in the First Division, their best result to date. It was not until 1954-55 that the team won their first League championship. In 1970, the team won their first FA Cup; however, success quickly ran away from Chelsea as they were relegated to the Second Division and nearly to the Third Division for the first time in the club’s history.
It took until 1997 before the team was able to reach 1970’s level of success, once again winning the FA Cup, and by 2000, the team made their first UEFA Champions League. In 2003, the team was purchased by Roman Abramovich and has since captured levels of success the team had never seen before, including becoming the first London club to win the UEFA Champions League in 2012.
Due to Chelsea’s uneven amount of success, a true rivalry has not really formed; however, their rivalry with Arsenal is hotly contested, especially in recent years. For the 2011-12 campaign, Chelsea finished 6th in the fixtures, but still automatically qualifies for the UEFA Champions League due to their victory in 2011-12 Champions League tournament. Chelsea also featured a team that had the worst disciplinary record, tallying a league leading 69 yellow cards and 4 red cards.
