When the NHL had a work stoppage in 2005; that might have been the best thing to happen to the Blackhawks. New GM Dale Tallon set about restructuring the team in the hopes of making a playoff run. Tallon made several moves in the summer of 2005, to dramatically improve the team. The moves failed as the Hawks were injury plagued and had one of the worst records in the league. Their luck was about to change, with the third overall pick in the 2006 NHL Draft, they selected Jonathan Toews, who led the University of North Dakota hockey team to the 2006 NCAA Frozen Four. Chicago Blackhawk tickets were readily available, but the team was eager to make a splash in the free-agent market, and offered big money to many of the top free agents. They were, however, denied as they were not able to land any of the big name all-stars, but they were able to acquire a future franchise player in left-winger Martin Havlat, as well as center Bryan Smolinski in a trade. Havlat gave the Blackhawks the talented, first-line caliber game breaker they so desperately needed. The Havlat trade was soon followed by a series of other trades that would get the city talking and Chicago Blackhawks tickets generating some buzz. The Hawks would then turn back the clock and promote the most popular and successful Blackhawks of all time, former player and current assistant coach Denis Savard to head coach. The Blackhawks continued to struggle, and finished last in the Central Division, 12 games out of the playoffs. All of this losing would not be in vain as the Hawks would be awarded the first overall pick in the draft. They used that pick to draft center Patrick Kane from the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League. Having a nucleus of young players and Blackhawks tickets really starting to take off, the Blackhawks were ready to take the next step. They would barely miss the playoffs in 2008, but the spring of 2009 would be a wild ride fans had been waiting on for years. Not only would they make the playoffs, they would go all the way to the conference finals eventually losing to the Chicago hated Detroit Redwings. The would also set attendance records for hockey tickets as Chicago Blackhawk tickets were the hottest in town as every game was pretty much sold out. 2010 looks to be even better for the Blackhawks as they look to build off of last year's success. In the offseason they signed Marion Hossa one of the best players in the league to a long term contact and have come out of the gate flying. They are in first place & are almost unbeatable at home. Let's hope they keep soaring and Blackhawk tickets stay hot.
