GEICO 400 Tickets
Every year since 2001, the Chicagoland Speedway plays host to one of the key NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. The event, held at the Joliet, Illinois track was originally designed to be a day time race but after seven years of the event, it was changed to the evening for a few years before retuning to be a day time race. The GEICO 400 is such a critical race in the series because as of 2010, the race has been in the first race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Typically the event is held in the middle of July but in 2011, the race made a drastic change and switched to a fall event, being held in mid September.
When the race was first introduced to the series in 2001, it was deemed the Tropicana 400, and has also been named the USG Sheetrock 400 and the LifeLock.com 400. It wasn’t until 2010 that the name was changed to the GEICO 400. One of the things that has made this race such a favorite for fans is not only that it is the first race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup but because it is known for always having multiple winners. While many races will have numerous repeat winners, there have only been two repeat winners in the history of the event; Tony Stewart and Kevin Harvick. Also, this race is noted for recording some of the fastest average speeds of any race in the current Sprint Cup series, making it a fan favorite for those looking for high speed races.
The event is 400.5 miles total in length and during the race, contestants are required to complete 267 laps around the track. The GEICO 400 is not only known for being a popular event on television, with annual coverage from the likes of ESPN, TNT and NBC, but it also draws in thousands each year to the Chicagoland race track to view the event. With some of the highest average speeds recorded in the Sprint Cup series and nearly three hours of high energy action per game, it is easy to see why this anual event, really brings in the crowds.
