Minnesota Twins History
The Minnesota Twins have currently been in Minnesota since 1961. They started their journey in 1900 in Washington D.C. The franchise was then known as the Washington Senators who became the modern day Minnesota Twins after six decades. They finished fifth in 1964. The 1964 Twins finished fifth but came back with a bang and won 102 games and the American League Pennant in 1965. Their success story did not end there; the team rewarded their fans by defeating Washington Senators with 2-1. Success came quickly and the Nat’s won first American League west title in 1969 paced by Harmon Killebrew’s 49 home runs and 140 RBIs. After winning the World Series in 1987 the Twins were able to capitalize on their success and were the first American League team, to draw 3,000,000 fans in attendance in 1988. The small market Twins had a great thing going as they were able to win it all again in 1991 with players like Kirby Puckett, Kent Hrbek & Jack Morris. After a few lean years in the late nineties, the Twins bounced back winning the division in 2002 and won it again in 2009-10. That’s why 2013 is shaping up to be another epic year for the Twins, but the pitching needs to fall in place.
