Coming from Foxborough, Massachusetts, the American professional soccer team, the New England Revolution has been one of the most respected teams in the league since their inception. The team plays as part of the Major League Soccer (MLS) and is one of the ten charter clubs of the MLS. Since the team was founded in 1995, they have had a successful run at being one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.
During their inception and their early formation years, the New England Revolution have had numerous star players on their team. In their inaugural season, they had several US Men’s National Team players who proudly came to the team to be apart of the revolutionary new league. Their first season featured Alexi Lalas, Mike Burns and Joe-Max Moore and other greats such as Steve Ralston and Steve Nicol would eventually go on to sport the New England Revolution colors.
In 2001, the Revolution made the US Open Cup Finals, and even without a major win, they managed to have one of the most successful seasons in terms of attendance. In the years 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2007, the club reached the MLS Cup finals. Even with this successes, both in the league’s inaugural season, and in a number of following seasons, it wasn’t until their twelfth season that the New England won their first trophy. In 2007, the club proudly claimed victory over the 2007 US Open Cup, and followed this victory up with a win in the 2008 North American SuperLiga.
The New England Revolution team is owned by Robert Kraft, who also owns the NFL New England Patriots team and despite having several stadiums they currently play their home games at Gillet Stadium. The New England Revolution holds numerous distinctions, including being the only original MLS team to have every league game in its history televised; a feat that reflects the popularity of the club.
Today, the Revolution continues to have great success and after legendary Liverpol player, Steven Nicol came on as a manager for the team, he left his position in 2011, the team looked to bring in change for their club. The change hopes to help the club begin their progression towards their goals of being one of the most successful teams in the MLS today.
