As the Major League Soccer (MLS) team representative of the New York City metropolitan area, the New York Red Bulls have had some large expectations to fill during their years as a club. The Eastern Conference team not only represents the largest and one of the most successful sports cities in the county, but they also serve as one of the ten charter clubs of the MLS. Originally deemed the Metros, the club actually plays their home games in Harrison New Jersey in the Red Bull Arena. The team has competed in the MLS since it was founded, and although they have gone through several name changes, the now New York Red Bulls have remained as one of the longest standing teams in the league.
During the long and successful history of the New York Red Bulls, a number of legendary players have worn the New York Red Bulls logo. Players like Giovanni Savarse, Brad Davis, Tim Howard, Jeff Parke and Michael Bradley have all been members of the club. The New York Red Bulls have also had the honor of being coached by a number of famed coaches as well such as Bob Bradley, Carlos Alberto and Bruce Arena.
Although they have made appearances in numerous championship games, as of 2012, the New York Red Bulls have yet to win a major trophy. Although they have had success in their conference, in tournaments and in tournaments a major trophy has still managed to slip the team’s clutches. The desire to achieve this level of success has motivated the team to go under several coaching and managerial changes throughout their years as a club.
In 2010, one of the biggest changes came about when the New York Red Bulls went under a major makeover. This year, the team debuted in a new stadium, lead by a new head coach and even introduced a large crop of new players. The newly strengthened team went on to play in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals that year, and followed a successful season up with yet another winning season.The current season features players from all over the world who have come together to form what is expected to be one of the Red Bull’s most successful seasons yet.
